Welcome to the party UAH!

Well the fist team to each the NCAA hockey tourney was decided today. The University of Alabama- Huntsville won the CHA tourney today with a thrilling victory over Robert Morris in a 5-4 overtime game. I got to see this game on CSTV this afternoon, and have to say it was a really fun game to watch. Robert Morris grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first period. They scored 3 goals on their first 4 shots and drove the starting goal from the game. But the Chargers of UAH didn’t fold it in and quit. They chipped away and took advantage of some power plays early in the second and cut the lead down to 4-2. The were able to get the score 4-3 by then of the 2nd. All of this set a thrilling back and forth 3rd period. The Chargers were able to tie the game up in the 3rd to force OT, is there anything better then a overtime championship game? The OT was back and forth with both goalies coming up with some huge saves. Robert Morris did get a power play opportunity in the OT, but is was UAH who took advantage and scored the game winner on the short hand. It was a nice goal on a break away with the Chargers going hard to the net. All of this brought UAH to its first every tourney. Have to feel good for UAH coach, Doug Ross, he has been the coach of UAH for 25 years and announced this was his last. This was not his best year with a record of 13-19-3 and had to play in the play in game in the CHA tourney, which they came back from a 3-0 deficit. But his team never gave up and fought hard to earn their way to the dance. I am sure many people will criticize them because of their losing record, but they did earn their way and deserve to be there. As Holy Cross showed us last year anything can happen.
Congrats UAH and best of luck, unless you get UNH in the first roundJ
